JAN'S CHRISTMAS TABLE

JAN’S CHRISTMAS TABLE

Christmas this year is likely to be a very casual affair. Noisy, hands-on and a little bit serve yourself.

We’ll start, as we often do, with Gravlax, Mustard Dill Sauce and Pickled Cucumber, teamed up with a big pile of Crunchy Buckwheat Crackers.

There’ll also be a good supply of Mini Sausage Rolls. (We’ll tame the taste to suit the kids, and make sure there are lots…)

Next, with the fish-lovers and pescatarians in mind – that does include most of us - we’ll have a mix of seafood, including Gazpacho Granita with Oysters, Tomato Baked Octopus and Pickled Spiced Squid, and School Prawn and Beluga Lentil Salad.

A big dish of Mejadarra (spiced lentils, rice and fried onions) and a couple of salads - perhaps a Celebration Vine Tomato Salad and a Green Bean and Edamame Salad - should get the table groaning.

Despite that, before long I’m sure we’ll be more than ready for Jenny’s Frozen Lemon Meringue Cake, which is miraculous.

Afterwards there probably won’t even be room for a wafer-thin mint, although we will have a stash of Rosie’s Chocolate Almond Rochers at the ready just in case.

Ah, Christmas. Bring it on.
